3rd June marked the 4th anniversary of Avicenna Studio, the day i started to venture into wedding photography 4 years ago. Time flies very fast, i almost forgot that it has been 4 years already. Wow.. I never thought that I’ll be a photographer, never crossed my mind. I’ve always wanted to be an engineer when I was young. At some point I wanted to be a Batman (seriously!), because it seems more doable than superman.
Now look what i’ve become, more like peter parker it seems…
Let me tell you the story how i started where i am today. It all happened by coincidence.
Almost every photographer has their great story behind him/her. Its like they are destined to be photographer, somehow. Some of them pick up camera since 3 years old, some was born right inside the darkroom and some was born right beside a camera. But i don’t have those kind of story… Mine a bit plain and unexciting.. hehe
I quit my fulltime job in 2005, with high ambition to start an IT company doing websites, ecommerce web portals and flash applications. I did started it and it ran for couple of months. But somehow, there are few people who wanted to get married, asked me to be their photographer for their wedding. It was an interesting task as well as challenging for me. First of all i know nothing about photography, well there maybe some knowledge on composition here and there but thats it. Secondly, i only owned a compact digital camera not a DSLR. how am i supposed to capture the wedding without a DSLR? So i got an idea of applying personal loan to my mom, and she kindly lend me the startup capital of buying my first DSLR, a D70s.. Thanks mom!!
I started to learn photography after i got my DSLR. I’m not kidding… I got my camera, a few jobs but zero knowledge of photography. I don’t have any mentor, I don’t have anyone photographer friends, I rely solely on internet to learn all about photography. One week before my first job, I struggled to learn the art of photography and i think i managed to do it. Not perfect, but “cukup makan” laa.. Here is my first wedding job ever:

And the rest is history, i never looked back. Avicenna Studio has been 4 years now, started frm my bedroom and now a company with a studio and 2 great staffs. Its a quite an achievement for me, even though i’m not the best in malaysia or a millionaire. Well if i were a millionaire, i wouldn’t tell the whole world esp in my blog “hey im a millionaire.. woohoo” .. kang kene rompak, sia2… I’ll just enjoy the money to myself… and wifo of course
I would like to thank my parent for supporting me, my wifo who is always by my side since day 1, my family, ALL of my clients, previous and future for believing in me and giving me a chance to capture you wedding day. If i could, i would write all of your names here, but that just gonna take me months, and this entry will not be up in time
Thanks to all my friends, other photogs who helped me along the way and thank you to all my blog/website reader…

I knew Mariq since 2007, we met in Antwerp, Belgium. Back then he was studying diamonds, i can’t remember the exact cert that he was taking. He was kind enough to offer his place for us to stay for couple of nights, although his pad was not that big (seriously). After that we became good friends, and now for almost a year, he is now a proud owner of Mariq Diamonds Sdn Bhd. His company specialises in bespoke and exclusive diamonds, sorta.. In his own words:
As connoisseurs of fine diamonds, our enduring passion stands firm behind the establishment of our company at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We are ever constant in refining our presence with an earnest intent to exhibit brilliance, in each and every facet of jewels we scintillate.A natural delight to the senses, each jewel mounted on noble platinum or the lustrous white gold handcrafted by us, emphasises on the beauty and sparkle of each carefully selected individual stones, with an aspiration to capture a personal exclusivity between the wearer and the diamond she possesses.
Contemporary in design and ideally classic, they represent both femininity and jewellery as an art as defined by us. Each, an eternal treasure for generations.

Before it comes to 2 months anniversary of hiatusness, i better start updating this blog.
Perth was a lovely city, very calm, very relaxed.. sometimes too relaxed to my liking. The city itself was not very big, i can even run from one end to another, seriously. We finished discovering the city within a day, thanks to the free CAT bus. Other than shopping, there was not a lot of things to do in perth. The shopping center closed at 5.30pm, so sumpah sangap lepas tu! The bars will be opened after dark, unless ur a drinker, there was nothing much to do.
Then we travelled to south perth, to visit the zoo. A very nice and well mantained zoo. I couldn’t remember when was the last time i enjoyed zoo this much. Wifo was really excited to see the koalas but get a tad dissapointed when the all koalas were sleeping. It seems that koalas slept 20 hours a day! daym..
I’m having writer’s block.. will write again soon…
Just got back from Jakarta a few hours ago, too much of es jeruk makes me miss teh o ais limau. hehe
Its like a Click Couture gathering in Jakarta. 4 of CC’s members, Me, Syahrin and Manggis were there to shoot Ahmad Fairus’ (Myphotographer) pre wedding portraiture. He is getting married to an Indonesian girl in April, so we took this chance to offer him a free pre wedding shoot, plus jalan2 in Jakarta. I don’t know about anyone else but I owe him one. He shot my akad nikah back in August 08, and now im returning the favour to him. Too bad I wont be able to shoot his wedding due to certain circumstances. I had fun during the shoot and very happy with the results. We had a nice weather, beautiful environment and most importantly a very bubbly couple. Congrats to both of you, hope u like the pics! (ni blom abis edit lg hehe)
