An engagement and a wedding in Kuching

03Jan09

I’ve never been to Kuching, not even Sarawak infact. It was the only state in Malaysia i’ve never been to. Had a chance to go there last weekend to shoot a wedding, courtesy of Neene & Shahriman. Took Air Asia 7am in the morning and it was madness! Checked in around 6am, and the crowd was like puduraya during Hari Raya eve.

When I arrived, around 9.30 am, I was told that there was an engagement proceeding before the afternoon reception. The engagement of Shahriman’s sister Felisha and national badminton player Fairuzizuan Tazari . Since i had nothing to do, besides eating kuih and sirap while waiting for the reception to start, i went around and shoot some candids.

Around 12 noon, the main couple arrived in gold, flanked by Men in Black from the army. I shot Neene & Shahriman’s reception in KL couple of months ago, but this one was indeed a different kind of reception with some sarawakian tradition, which is pretty exciting. What was so funny about this wedding was, everyone was talking sarawakian and i stood there like one dumb blonde trying to figure out what they were saying. I only understood “kamek” and “sik”. That’s it!

After everything finished, went straight to Neene’s family house, and blacked out for 2 hours. Woke up, and went straight to airport to catch my flight home. It was a very tiring and exciting journey. I hoped that i could stay for few days to enjoy kuching, but i had to go back since I have another wedding to shoot on the next day. Thanks to Neene & Shahriman, and their family for treating me well while i was in kuching. Truly a first class service.

Goodbye 2008

31Dec08

This is the last day of 2008 and tomorrow comes a brand new year, 2009. A lot has happened in 2008 for me personally. Personal achievements as well as career. There are lots of ups as well as downs, but just to sum up the year, im pretty fine on how 2008 turned out. Below are somethings that im really proud of, which took place through out the year:

2008

  • I got married to my wifey, after being together for 5 years
  • Brought wifey for a euro honeymoon
  • Avicenna Studio is no longer in my bedroom, moved to a proper office
  • Being one of the members of Click Couture
  • Bought my own house, I mean OUR own house :P

Alhamdulillah, thanks to Allah for all the things that i have been blessed with. Also, thanks to those who believed in me and support me till where I am today. You know who you are…

With 2009 coming up ahead, i have few goals i have in mind that i need to accomplish. I’ve been told that goals should be written down, instead of stucked in your head like forever and never been achieved. Well here is my so called resolutions for the new year

2009

  • Have a child (ok, wifey freaked out!)
  • Assemble a talented team of photographers under the Avicenna Studio brand
  • Getting an international recognitions in wedding photography
  • Teach more photography classes
  • Be the 2nd millionaire photographer :P
  • Play gigs with wifey
  • Be more organized and less procastination ( i have my wifey now.. hehe)

There are lots more in my head, more like small2 things that i need to improve. Good luck to me in 2009 and best of luck to all of you too!

Albums that brought the man outta me

10Dec08

Tagged by jacky, below are the 10 albums that really changed my life and inspired me to play guitar.

1. Metallica Black Album

This album was my starting point of being a metal head. Before this, the baddest album i ever owned was either vanilla ice or KRU.

2. Green day - Dookie

This is green day’s best album ever! It was hard to get this album, especially in Kuala Kangsar. I’ve waited 2 hours infront of the cassette store just to get my copy.

3. Weezer - Blue Album

Weezer is like the coolest geek, beating bill gates by miles!!! Sweater song got me hooked into this one.

4. Guns and Roses - Use your Illusion II

The sweet sound of slash shredding his guitar. Who could forget that?

5. Rage Against The Machine

I fell in love with Tom Morello’s wah and whammy the minute i listened to this album, and decided once and for all that Morello is my guitar god.

6. Nirvana Unplugged in New York

At this time what else was cooler than wearing a flannel shirt and jack purcell’s sneaks? About a Girl was the first song i learned to play on guitar.

7.  Offspring - Smash

Punk rock at its best! Or maybe it is skate punk-rock? Offspring and Green Day inspired me and Xumb to form our first band XII Psyded Dyce. Kan xumb????

8. Bon Jovi - Crossroad

When you’re feeling jiwang and lonely, this is the perfect remedy! hehe

9. Silverchair - Frogstomp

From down under, 15 year old kids really rock my socks!

10. Oasis - What’s the story morning glory?

Brit rock at its best…

Ahhh this albums remind me of the old cassette day, where ppl with sony walkman were the coolest… esp with mega bass :P
